The principal of a Bay Area high school where a "fantasy slut league" was played by some student athletes said Thursday that "we are returning all of our energy and attention to student learning."
In declining media interview requests, Piedmont High Principal Richard Kitchens wrote in an email Wednesday that "good students can make bad choices, and it is our intention to help them learn from these experiences."
"Please understand, keeping this story in the press and public's eye compromises our parents' and education professionals' abilities to focus squarely on the students who we aim to serve," he wrote.
"With limited public education resources, I feel I must focus all human capital at our children's needs and the great programs and people we have to support them," he continued.
Kitchens sent a letter last week to parents, informing them of the "fantasy slut league," loosely based on the widely popular fantasy sports leagues. But instead of pretend to draft athletes, male students reportedly drafted females and earned points for documented sexual acts with them.
The point of the letter was to inform parents of the issue and hopefully spur a change in behavior among students, Kitchens has said.
Piedmont is a small, affluent city in Alameda County surrounded by the city of Oakland.
