Two South El Monte High School students severed their fingers during a game of tug of war, officials said Tuesday.
Students were playing the game, in which juniors competed against seniors, during lunchtime Monday as part of Spirit Week festivities at the school, officials said. The rope snapped, and a girl and boy each severed at least one finger, according to KTLA.
The students were taken to a hospital, and doctors performed surgery on them to reattach the fingers, officials said.
