The Mother of Dragons has her sights set on more than just the Iron Throne.
Emilia Clarke, best known as Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO series "Game of Thrones," will play the lead role in "Voice From the Stone," an independent psychological thriller set in 1950s Tuscany, the filmmakers announced Monday.
With the casting news coming on the heels of "GOT's" buzzy Season 4 finale, "Stone" becomes the latest indie movie to attempt to draft on a star with a popular TV show.
It's a logical marketing move, but no guarantee the film will find a broad audience — just ask "Glee" star Lea Michele, whose animated movie "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return" was a critical and box-office dud last month.
"Voice From the Stone" is based on Silvio Raffo's novel about a nurse (Clarke) who is working to help a boy deal with the trauma of his mother's sudden death but gets embroiled by a dark force lurking in the family's castle.
Eric D. Howell will make his feature directing debut on the film, from a screenplay adapted by Andrew Shaw. Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini-Durante are producing the film for their Zanuck Independent and Code 39 Films banners. Cameras are scheduled to roll in Italy in November.
Clarke is currently shooting "Terminator: Genesis," the fifth installment in the sci-fi series, due July 1, 2015, from Paramount.
