An impressive drive on the No. 18 hole at Pinehurst No. 2 has helped Michelle Wie pull even with Stacy Lewis at the U.S. Women's Open.
The tee shot resulted in a birdie as Wie, who started on the back nine, reached 3-under halfway through her second round on Friday.
This year, the women are on the same course the men recently played for their open. Wie prepared by studying the yardage books of Keegan Bradley and Rickie Fowler.
"They put some really good notes in for me," she said after a 2-under first round. "I did a lot of homework. I think it's the most homework I've ever done on a golf course."
Lewis was scheduled to start her second round at 10:47 a.m. PDT. Lucy Li, the 11-year-old making history as the youngest player in women's open history, was expected to tee off at 9:52 a.m.
