Beware, Juergen Klinsmann. Your team might now be cursed. Not by Landon Donovan, but by Yasiel Puig.
The Dodgers right fielder said he is cheering for the United States at the World Cup.
Puig started the tournament as a fan of defending champion Spain, which crashed out in the first round.
When Spain was eliminated, Puig joined Adrian Gonzalez in backing Mexico.
In the aftermath of Mexico's dramatic loss in the round of 16, Puig was asked which team he would support now.
Puig called out to Gonzalez.
"Gonzo, which team are we going for now?" Puig shouted.
"United States," Gonzalez called back.
"United States," Puig said.
Told he would impart bad luck on the Americans, Puig laughed.
The U.S. squad will be an underdog Tuesday, when they face rising star Eden Hazard and Belgium.
Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly is predicting a U.S. victory.
Mattingly was asked by how many goals the U.S. would lose.
"What?" Mattingly replied. "We're going to win tomorrow."
Last month, Mattingly correctly predicted that the U.S. would advance out of the group stage.
