Heavy rain suspends play at PGA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Tiger Woods' golf game may not be in order, but his forecasting skills are accurate.

"I need to get under par by the end of my second round, whenever that is," Woods said following his disappointing first round.

PGA of America officials suspended Friday's second round at 7:50 a.m. Eastern because of the heavy rains that deluged Valhalla Golf Club. The decision came just 20 minutes after the first four groups teed off from the first and 10th holes.

Play resumed at 8:35 a.m. Eastern and all tee times that hadn't started were pushed back 50 minutes. But another dose of heavy rain hit the course just after 11 a.m. Eastern, making playing conditions extremely difficult.

Ryan Palmer, who shared the first-round lead with Lee Westwood and Kevin Chappell with 6-under 65s, moved to 7-under through 10 holes. World No. 1 player Rory McIlroy and a group of four other golfers stood at 5-under starting the day, and McIlroy erased an early bogey with two birdies in three holes to move to 6-under.

The suspension was termed a "non-dangerous situation" because there is currently no electricity in the area, just the heavy rains. Bubba Watson told The Golf Channel that the wet conditions could add "400 yards" to an already long layout.

"The ball isn't going to roll," Watson told the station.
