The Lakers introduced their new head coach last week, welcoming back Byron Scott to the organization on a four-year deal.
Scott, who won three titles with the "Showtime" Lakers and was a teammate of then-rookie Kobe Bryant during the 1996-97 season, will coach his fourth NBA team after stops with the New Jersey Nets (now in Brooklyn), the Charlotte Hornets (now Pelicans) and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Though Scott doesn't have a great overall coaching record, his resume is more impressive without the years spent with the rebuilding Cavaliers.
The Lakers have struggled to replace Phil Jackson. Scott may be the right choice after dead ends with Mike Brown and Mike D'Antoni.
Fans hailed the hire on social media, with the hope that Scott can help get the franchise back on track. Although that's a positive thought, the big question is, does he have enough talent on the roster to do so?
It's unclear who Scott will add to his coaching staff but holdovers Johnny Davis, Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis seem likely to be a part of it.
Scott was welcomed at his news conference by old friends Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jamaal Wilkes -- but the new Lakers coach acknowledged that the team would not try to re-create the Showtime era.
Johnson said the team's late owner, Jerry Buss, had wanted Scott to coach Lakers but that Scott took the position in Cleveland before the opportunity in Los Angeles became available.
Meanwhile, the Lakers' roster climbed to 12 players with the re-signing of Wesley Johnson. The Lakers also used the balance of their "room exception" to bring back Xavier Henry.
Finally, no Lakers are currently on the Team USA roster for the World Cup of Basketball, but Canadian center Robert Sacre is representing his national team this summer through a stretch of European exhibition games.
