A fire at an air traffic control facility has halted all flights in and out of the Chicago area, the FAA says.
All flights in and out of Chicago O'Hare and Chicago Midway airports have been grounded until further notice, said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory.
The facility has been evacuated, and air traffic control operations have been moved to an adjacent building.
Aurora police is on scene and investigating the fire, Isham Cory said.
As of 7:30 a.m. Friday in Los Angeles, nine flights to the Chicago area had been canceled – six to O'Hare, and three bound for Midway.
No information was immediately available on when the flights might resume.
