Police in Canada say a person has been shot at the country's National War Memorial near the nation's parliament, and the parliament building and the entire area is on lockdown.
The Associated Press reported that the person shot is believed to be a member of the Canadian Forces. Police are still looking for a suspect or suspects, Ottawa Constable Marc Soucy said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are asking residents of downtown Ottawa to stay away from windows and off roofs. The lockdown extends to all federal and commercial buildings "in the area" Soucy said.
Parliament member Tony Clement said on Twitter that he heard shots fired during a caucus meeting.
Ottawa police received a call at 9:52 a.m. with a report of shots fired.
The shooting on Parliament Hill follows another deadly incident Monday when a man suspected of terrorist radicalization crashed his car into two Canadian soldiers, killing one of them. The driver was later killed in a confrontation with police.
