Orange Lutheran started the season with a 4-1 record and came close to Corona Centennial, losing, 52-49. Loyola started the season 4-0 and was loaded with top skill-position players. But each team heads into a regular-season finale on Friday night winless in league play, showing how good the Trinity and Mission leagues are.
Orange Lutheran (4-5, 0-4) plays Mater Dei at Santa Ana Bowl. Loyola (4-5, 0-4) plays at Gardena Serra.
Each will try to end the season on a high note, with the juniors and sophomores hoping to send a message that they will be much better in 2015.
For Orange Lutheran, junior quarterback L.J. Northington continues to make progress. He has 1,322 yards passing and 447 yards rushing. Junior Jordan Williams has had a big season with 65 tackles at linebacker.
Senior Keisean Lucier-South has seven sacks.
For Loyola, injuries have decimated the Cubs' running backs. Sophomore quarterback Sean O'Malley has been trying to gain varsity experience. Many of the Cubs' best players are juniors _ Daniel and David Tolbert, David Long, Jordan Riordan, Myles Bryant. They'll need to figure out what happened and what went wrong.
But there's still one game to go, and both will be dangerous.
