U.S. stocks are rising in early trading following two days of declines.

Traders were encouraged Tuesday by a stronger-than-expected earnings report from the giant aluminum maker Alcoa late Monday.

Energy stocks lagged the rest of the market as the price of crude oil continued to fall.

The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 226 points, or 1.3%, to 17,869 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 22 points, or 1.1%, to 2,050. The Nasdaq composite increased 59 points, or 1.3%, to 4,723.

The price of oil fell again. U.S. benchmark crude lost 56 cents to $45.49 a barrel.

U.S. government bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.93%.
