A water main break in the Hollywood Hills was flooding streets early Wednesday, leaving several vehicles in a parking garage submerged.
Fire crews responded to the 6400 block of Dix Street after a pipe burst, sending water spewing into the neighborhood, said Capt. Jaime Moore of Los Angeles Fire Department.
Several vehicles in a parking structure were taking on water, he said, adding that fire crews were trying to pump out the water from the structure.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews were on the scene and working to stop the flow of water, the utility's spokeswoman Kim Hughes said.
The utility was notified about the burst about 4:30 a.m. and is trying to shut off a series of valves in a specific sequence to avoid causing another rupture, she said.
Officials said it was unclear what caused the 18-inch pipe to burst and how much water had already flowed from the main.
Photographs shared on social media showed several vehicles, including SUVs, submerged in murky water.
