Seven people were killed in an early morning fire at an apartment building in Lowell, Mass., authorities said.
The three-alarm blaze broke out just before 4 a.m. Thursday in a nine-unit complex in the dense Lower Highlands neighborhood of the city, about 25 miles northwest of Boston.
It took more than 40 firefighters a couple of hours to put the fire out, said Deputy Chief Jeff Winward of the Lowell Fire Department.
Crews were still on the scene extinguishing hot spots in the three-story building, Winward said, and the victims' bodies have not yet been removed.
No other information, including how many were injured or rescued from the building's top floors, was available. This post will be updated.
