The nonprofit Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society in Lake Tahoe hosts fabulous Winemakers' Dinners each summer to raise funds for the historic Thunderbird Lodge and yacht. Last year I was thrilled to attend the Sept. 14 dinner, which included a private tour of the estate and its grounds (formerly owned by the millionaire George Whittell Jr.). This year's dates are July 12, Aug. 9 and Sept. 13. Tickets are $250, with $160 of that a charitable donation.
