A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot early Monday inside his Torrance home, authorities said.
Details about the events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but authorities said the boy suffered a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Deputies arrived at the home, an apartment in the 900 block of West Carson Street, just after midnight, and the teen was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Homicide Lt. Holly Francisco told KTLA that eight friends and family members were inside the apartment at the time the boy was shot. Some of them were sleeping or hanging out, she said.
Detectives reportedly recovered a weapon at the scene.
The boy's death marks the second homicide in the last 12 months in Torrance, according to the Los Angeles Times Homicide Report.
Rafaela Maria De Casas, 69, was found dead Sept. 20 in the 3800 block of West 226th Street in Torrance. She died of stab wounds.
